How do I generate a really cool signature? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ First there are the GNU textutils. They are propably already installed on your system: cat, tac, fmt, fold, head, tail, cut, expand, unexpand Then there are some of my own tools in this directory: - left.pl aligns a text to the left - right.pl aligns a text to the right - hcenter.pl aligns a text to the center (horizontally) - top.pl aligns a text to the top - bottom.pl aligns a text to the bottom - vcenter.pl aligns a text to the bottom (vertically) - indent.pl moves a text to the right - leftblock.pl, rightblock.pl and hcenterblock.pl do the same as left.pl, right.pl and hcenter.pl - the difference is that they don't work line per line but treat the input as a whole block. All these tools are called with this syntax: command [width/height/movement] [inputfile1] [inputfile2] [inputfile...] There are two special tools: - eatlinefeed.pl removes the final linefeed of an input file. - overlay.pl puts multiple files on top of each other. Only space characters will be overwritten by later files, so the first file is "on top". The syntax for these is: command [inputfile1] [inputfile2] [inputfile...] Inputfile is directly passed to the Perl open()-function. This allows some nice tricks. Instead of /usr/bin/uptime | indent.pl 5 - you can also write: indent.pl 5 "/usr/bin/uptime|" No go and use these tools. Some ideas for this are found in the examples directory.
