What's this? ------------ This package allows you to use the USB Audio interfaces from M-Audio/ Midiman with Linux. It sets up an hotplugging script to load the firmware from the Windows driver files. The project page is http://usb-midi-fw.sf.net Prerequisites ------------- - Linux 2.6.8 or later. Earlier kernels have a bug in the USB reset code which will prevent the loader from working correctly. USB, usbfs and hotplugging support must have been enabled in the kernel configuration. - Hotplugging scripts from <http://linux-hotplug.sourceforge.net/> (release dated 2002_08_26 or later). Recent Linux distributions already come with these. - ALSA 1.0.0 or later, <http://www.alsa-project.org/> Installing ---------- 1) For legal reasons, the firmware binaries cannot be distributed with this package, so you have to get them yourself. If you have the Windows driver installed, you can find these files in the \WINNT\system32\drivers directory. Otherwise, download the latest driver for your unit from <http://www.m-audio.com/>, run the Windows driver package on a Windows machine, click 'Cancel' when the dialog with a picture of the device appears, then copy the file from the temporary directory. (The temporary directory may be "C:\temp" or "C:\Winnt\Temp" or "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp".) The file name depends on the device you have: Audiophile: ma003101.bin MobilePre: ma004103.bin Sonica: ma005101.bin Transit: ma006100.bin Ozone: ma008100.bin Copy the required driver file(s) into the same directory where this package was extracted. 2) Run './configure'. 3) Run 'make'. 4) As root, run 'make install'. Uninstalling ------------ As root, run 'make uninstall'. Running ------- The hotplugging scripts automatically load the firmware when the device is connected to the computer. Logging and error messages will be in /var/log/messages.
