<h2 class="section"> 4.11 The Lighting System </h2>
<p>Crystal Space has a number of ways to light up a level. Here is a short summary:

<em>Static lightmaps</em>: In this situation lighting is precalculated and cannot
change at runtime. Pseudo-dynamic lights are possible. These can change
color and intensity but not position. Dynamic lights are also possible
but have low quality.
</li><li>
<em>Stencil shadows</em>: Uses stencil hardware to calculate shadows. This
requires no precalculation but tends to get rather slow with big levels
and lots of lights.
</li><li>
<em>Vertex lighting</em>: No shadows.
